Shanghai Tea Company
Packaging / Brand Design

Found in most boutique cafés, restaurants and gift stores throughout Australia, The Shanghai Tea Company draws its inspiration from the stunning teahouse in Lake Centre in the city of Shanghai. The teahouse is over 200 years old and is the earliest teahouse existing in Shanghai. The Shanghai Tea Comapny has a unique range of teaballs, loose leaf teas and tea making products all sourced from its traditional home in China.
A new brand and packaging strategy was developed to harness the origins and traditions of the well established teahouse. Drawing on the architecture of the teahouse, a lattice detail was designed to become part of the brand language. Marrying with this, the Chinese word for "tea" was used as a stamp effect overlaying the main "Shanghai Tea Company" brand mark.
A range of complimentary colours were used to differentiate the varieties of teas, teaballs and products. Final packaging treatments were developed to give the "authentic" effect of the products. With the use of recycled brown paper bags, red rubber stamping and the use of a red wax seal the overall effect is a packaging solution which reinforces the authenticity and traditional aspect of the Shanghai Tea Company
